Gisborne Meeting 2nd February 2008

After 2 rain outs in Gisborne we finally got to race.

We were eager to try out our bike after converting it back to Methanol however,  we didn’t get the result we were hoping for.

We were not happy with it so back to the old faithful BP98 to finish the season off.

CablePrice New Zealand Champs 2008

Lost for words…………..Back to Back……… Thanks to everyone for the tremendous support we had during our races to retain our 1NZ title here on our home track.

To win it again is awesome, but to win it on our own home track in front of all our family, friends, sponsors and supporters was a feeling too hard to describe.

The response from the crowd after our final race was totally amazing, thanks to them they made it all worth it.

To Miles and his committee, the track was fantastic, the time, effort and sponsorship put into this meeting is greatly appreciated.

The extra effort put into rewarding the 16 finalists with the “Cable Price” handles and sashes - 1 for each rider and swinger.

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place getters trophies are spectacular and we even get to keep them this year. Thanks GT for the “Sidecar.net.nz” 1NZ, 2NZ and 3NZ hats.

Karl Scragg (Scraggy) from “CablePrice” Gisborne, thanks for the sponsoring the event. As we all know without these sponsors none of this would have happened.

Our pit crew chief Glen came through for us in the end. A little mishap at the start with a hole in our radiator threw us back a notch. We can’t thank Burt and Robyn of “Ireland Motors – Radiator Specialists” enough for fixing it for us.

Ready to race for the qualifying Glen, Charles, Shaz and Bex had us sorted. But as usual our night didn’t start according plan - Our spare tyre was flat before we even had our first race. Thanks to Graeme Rylott 33G for his help, our spare was up in running within minutes.

No dramas from then on qualified equal with Sefton and Clint 61G, Les and Kervin 2NZ.

Strangely enough the finals night went according to plan with our end result retaining our 1NZ and Back to Back title.A huge thanks to everyone who had continuous faith in us, helped us and supported us.

A special thanks to GT for the revamped website and the great photos taken. Guess we’d better update it more often than we have been this year.Awesome DVD footage taken Pogal. Looking forward to purchasing one of them.

Thanks girls, Shaz and Fe for looking after us all weekend, making sure we were well feed and watered and those Paua Fritters were nice….Shaz would have been hard pressed to handle our crowd without you.

Thanks to the other 15 finalists, it was an honour to race against you guys. Congratulations to 2NZ Les and Kervin keeping your number, also congratulations to Sefton and Clint 61G now 3NZ.

NZ Sidecar Championships

11th & 12th January 2008 in Gisborne

Sorry, we’ve been pretty slack this season with write ups. Haven’t raced for a month since our tumble (for those who haven’t seen it check out the Gisborne Speedway Website). Toby’s still recooperating after breaking a rib and stretched shoulder muscles. Bondy and our bike are just having a well earned rest.

Good luck to all who are racing this coming weekend here in Gisborne. See you there.

Cheers and thanks for everything this last season as 1NZ.

Opening Meeting -

Fireworks Fiesta - 3rd Nov 2007.

1st Race

Opening meeting brought in 11 locals and YROA Stu and Ritchie. Racing 3 heats of 4.

Race 1, 1st Heat – As usual dramas unfolded for us. The front wing around the engine decided to take off and hooked under the front wheel making a peculiar sound. We pulled over to find it was nothing much and carried on for a 3rd placing.

Opening Meeting Race 2, 2nd Heat – We knew this one was going to be a goodie. Truuts on wall, Les/Kervin, Clive/Brendan and us on pole. The track was slick down low. With 4 very edgy bikes it took 3 starts to get it right. This time we pulled a 1st, Sefton, Les and Clive 4th. Very close racing. Anyone could have won it.

Race 3, 1st Heat – After an awesome fireworks display lasting 10 minutes the racing carried on for the 3rd and final round for the night. 2nd Heat on 2, Truuts on wall. Got a reasonable start but had dramas again 2 laps in. We blew a small water pipe hose and tried to cook our engine causing the rest of the pack to get slightly sprayed – Sorry guys……. However, we still managed a 1st placing, Truuts very close behind.

Overall a reasonable start to the season, best to iron out all dramas now then later. Certainly had our fair share of dramas on our practices as well.

NZ Speedway Awards

Sportspersons of the Year

We left the best for last……………..

The ultimate dream…………..

First of all getting the “Sidecar Competitor” of the year then, to really top the season off, winning the “NZ Speedway Sportspersons” of the year.

What a finish to the season.  I would like to thank the Gisborne Speedway Club for nominating us for this prestigious award.  Without the committee’s and our valuable team members support throughout the season the final outcome would never have been possible.

Thank You

Toby

Gisborne Speedway Club Driver of the Year

the-crew.jpg

Bondy and I would like to say thanks to the Gisborne Speedway Club Committee and supporters for the prestigious “Club Driver of the Year” for our club.

This has resulted from our dream season of racing including the New Zealand Champs in Blenheim, the New Zealand Grand Prix in Hawkes Bay, the West Coast Champs in Wanganui, the East Coast Champs in Hawkes Bay and our own Gisborne Champ of Champs.

We were unfortunate not to complete a national treble with a third at the North Island Champs in KihiKihi and were runners up at the Manawatu Champs.

We also won the Gisborne Club’s main and feature point trophies and the Wayne Law/Andrew Cartmell Memorial Trophy and picked up the trophy for the fastest lap.

This would not have been at all possible without the continuous help of our dedicated pit crew Charles, Shaz, Bex, Kent and Glenn. Not to forget our greatest supporters of all Dylan and Joshua, also thanks to Dot and Margaret who stayed home looking after them while we were away most of the time.

Our club also nominated us and are finalists in the “Rockforte Finance Sporting Excellence Awards” as Sports Team for 2007. This is to be decided at the awards dinner 20th July at the Emerald Hotel, Gisborne.

We are also heading down to Christchurch to the “New Zealand Speedway Awards” as we are also finalists for the Sportsperson of the Year and the Competitor of the Year. This is to be held on the 28th July at the Christchurch Town Hall.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed in some way towards our dream season.

Gisborne Honda Sidecar Champ of Champs

With 14 out of the 16 entries turning up, it was going to make some good close racing. Enties from Hawkes Bay, Auckland, Wellington not to forget our Gisborne competitors and defending champions 2NZ Les and Kervin.

Truuts brothers made an awesome come back to racing after taking a tumble at the Grand Prix. They pulled a third on their new bike. Last years Champ of Champ winners Les & Kervin came 2nd and well we managed another win.

Racing was done 4 to a heat over 5 races, gathering points from race 1. Its only taken us 10 years or so but we have the 1 Gisborne cup we’ve never obtained before.

Thanks to all our supporters and sponsors as we head off to Palmerston North for the Manawatu Sidecar Champs.
